Buses and Libraries Hit by Hertfordshire Conservatives' Council Tax Rise

Liberal Democrat County Councillors have been shocked by local Tories' plans to hike council tax by 1.99% this year, the maximum they can without taking it to a county-wide referendum. . In a highly controversial budget Hertfordshire Conservatives have proposed swingeing cuts to buses and library services. . Leader of the Opposition and the Liberal Democrat Group, Stephen Giles-Medhurst commented: "I am appalled. The County Council clearly has to be careful and look after taxpayers' money properly, but right now putting up Council Tax by almost 2 percent and also hitting services to the elderly and vulnerable leave a bad taste in the mouth. We all know times are tough, but the Liberal Democrat Group have looked long and hard at the options available to us and will be proposing an alternative budget that ring-fences essential services and freezes Council Tax" . Croxley Rail Link Update

Hertfordshire County Council remains committed to the Croxley Rail Link, and is working together with the scheme's partner organisations to achieve the best outcome for this important project. A report detailing the preferred model to enable the delivery of the scheme went to to the council's Cabinet on Monday 23 February where they will be asked to give approval of the proposed financing of the county council's contribution to the project. However at the Council Meeting the next day it became clear that there were still some loose ends to tie up with London Underground Ltd regarding responsibility and a degree of funding shortfall.

Calling All Pensioners . On Friday 20th February the Pensioners Forum meets again, 2.00 - 4.00pm at Three Rivers House. The formal agenda this time includes short talks from the CAB on issues of importance and relevance to pensioners, Friends of Watersmeet, Hertfordshire Health Walks and the Environment Agency. We have received several phone calls about the tree felling on the grass area in Eastwick Crescent. It has been carried out by the land owners, Bilton Estates - who originally built all the homes there - not by TRDC or Herts CC.
