Mayor Dorothy Thornhill Hails Croxley Rail Link Sign Off News
The £200m scheme Croxley Rail Link project has been formally signed off at a Treasury meeting this morning.
.
Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thronhill, who is standing as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for the Watford Constituency said,
.
"After a decade of hard work, I can now officially say Croxley rail link has been given the green light! The main construction will start this autumn, with the first trains on the new route due in 2018!
.
I've always been clear that Croxley rail link is a transformational project for the town, and absolutely critical to unlocking Watford's future economic potential. The link has been a priority throughout my time as mayor.
.
Getting such a major project off the ground takes a long time. You may remember our disappointment when the project got kicked into the long grass by the last Labour Government.
.
The rail link was too important to give up on, and I worked with Government ministers, Watford Borough Council officers and councillors, counterparts at Hertfordshire County Council, Transport for London, and Labour and Conservative Mayors of London to make the dream a reality.
.
The decade of meetings, reports, strategies and submissions clearly worked! I am particularly proud of the support my Liberal Democrat colleagues in Government have given Croxley Rail Link - Liberal Democrats in Westminster making a real difference to our town!
.
Watford is booming, and my council colleagues and I are proud of our successes in bringing major investment to our area. Projects like the rail link, together with Watford Health Campus, Watford Business Park, Watford Junction Interchange and Charter Place Shopping Centre will make sure that Watford remains a great place in which to live, work, visit and study.
.
Nigel Quinton, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for South West Herts added,
.
"Dorothy Thornhill deserves every credit for her success in this long drawn out lobbying marathon.
.
The Croxley Rail Link will be an important means of access to Watford General Hospital for people living in Tring and Berkhamsted and near other stations along the West Coast Main Line.
.
I wish Dorothy every success in the General Election on May 7th."
