The Croxley Rail Link has taken another significant step towards reality. Hertfordshire County Council, which is the lead partner in this multi-agency project, has appointed Taylor Woodrow to draw up the engineering plans for the project.

The Committee has agreed this should be done as part of a wider review of Speed Policy generally and the county's Highways and Transport Panel will be looking at the wider issues first. The Committee will then consider if the policies and procedures for implementing 20mph speed limits in Hertfordshire need simplifying or modifying.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Watkin, Opposition Spokesperson for Education, challenged Hertfordshire County Council's Executive Member for Education, Conservative Councillor Frances Button, to explain how services will address the needs of specific groups who cannot cope with schools, such as high achieving children with autism. She failed to do so. Instead she repeated the standard response that they could either attend a Moderate Learning Difficulty school; or have home help; or attend a mainstream school - none of which will adequately meet the needs of many of these children.
At the Hertfordshire County Council meeting on 26 February, the Liberal Democrat Group offered the only alternative to the Conservative budget in Hertfordshire, with a budget that invested heavily in highway infrastructure and supported public transport, young people and the homeless.
