Work Begins On One Way System for Hemel Hempstead Old Town
Work has started on a new one way system for Hemel Hempstead Old Town. The works are being carried out on behalf of Dacorum Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council.
The £1.3million scheme to introduce a one way system to the High Street as part of the regeneration of Hemel Hempstead Old Town is expected to last 22 weeks and is being undertaken in five phases.
The first phase, involving preparatory work, began on May 28 and the second phase which will involve the implementation of a one way system from Queensway up to the High Street began in June.
Phases two and three will be undertaken using traffic controls, maintaining access for vehicles and pedestrians, but the fourth phase will necessitate a road closure of the High Street beginning 2 September 2013. Further details about the works, including road closure and diversion information, will be available on www.hertsdirect.org/roadworks
The access to the car park will be maintained throughout the duration of the works and the car park will remain open.
Terry Douris, the new Herts County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by these works which are a key part of the regeneration of the Old Town. Disruption will be kept to a minimum but we would ask you to allow extra time for any journeys you make while the work is in progress."
Contact information, regular updates and photos of work in progress will be posted on the Dacorum Borough Council's website: http://web.dacorum.gov.uk/home/regeneration/hemel-evolution/old-town
The work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances can arise. Any changes to the proposed start date or duration will be announced on the information boards on site and will be available at www.hertsdirect.org/roadworks
Any necessary changes to bus service routes will be listed at www.intalink.org.uk in the 'service disruptions' section.
