Household Waste Recycling Sites Set for the Chop!

Just a week after the local elections the Conservative run county council has announced they plan to award a new commercial contract to run its Household Waste sites that will mean two will close and others will see a massive reduction in opening hours with sites closing at 4pm and two day closures.

Green News from Rickmansworth Liberal Democrats

Three Rivers District Council has been working with the Fire Service and a local livery stable to introduce Community Horse Patrols and Three Rivers Community Safety Partnership launched the new horse patrol project at the end of April. The project involves volunteer horse riders acting as 'eyes and ears' in Three Rivers, looking out for anti-social behaviour and incidents while out riding. Incidents such as fly-tipping, graffiti, abandoned vehicles will be reported. The project will be managed by Herts Fire and Rescue. Valley Farm Stables in Sarratt is the first stable involved.

European Funding Delivers Railfreight Boost for East of England Transport

On 24th March the transport company GB Railfreight successfully completed tests of some short stretches of new track and a re-modelled railway junction in Ipswich by actually running a freight train along the new sections. It is officially known as the "Ipswich Chord", but unofficially as the "Bacon Factory Curve" because it passes over the site of an old Walls bacon factory.

Nick Clegg has revealed Labour's secret plans to scrap half a million apprenticeships. Apparently Labour and their Union bosses see no value in this popular and effective way to help people into work, because they think they are 'deadweight'.

Herts CC - No Number to Call in an Emergency !

On Tuesday 25th March residents in West Watford's Benskin Road were disturbed by a loud bang. On investigation they discovered that a lamp post had literally just fallen over. No cars were involved and it later transpired a resident had reported the danger of the wobbling concrete light that morning.
