Good News - Liberal Democrat-run Three Rivers is one of the local authorities allocated money from the High Street Innovation Fund. Our share is £100,000. The aim is that local authorities, government, businesses and communities work together to promote new models of prosperous and diverse high streets and confidence in local high streets. Among approaches suggested are business rate discounts for new start-up businesses taking on empty properties and persuading landlords to support new occupiers, filling empty properties and increasing local choice for the local community. "In view of the damning criticism from the Chief Adjudicator of the Traffic Penalty Tribunal in her decision on two appeals, Hertfordshire County Council should repay all of the penalties paid in relation to this sorry scheme.
A year ago South West Herts resident and Liberal Democrat MEP Sharon Bowles was appointed Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, Europe's top committee responsible for the regulation of financial services. At the time Sharon was tipped by the Financial Times to become one of the most powerful people in European finance. Since then her reputation for fairness and impartiality and her outstanding ability to master and analyse complex briefs has propelled her to the centre of international affairs.
Liberal Democrats in Hemel are tonight celebrating a big gain in votes in Adeyfield West. Their candidate Steve Wilson saw the Lib Dem vote gain on a 10.95% swing from Labour. The result was a disaster for Labour whose vote has traditionally been strong in the area. While the Lib Dems went up 8.1% from 2007, Labour fell by 13.3%, and the Conservatives fell by 8.6%.
On June 4th, in the recent Hertfordshire County Elections, Nick Hollinghurst was re-elected as County Councillor for Tring and the Villages following a well-supported campaign. A dedicated group of activists and councillors co-ordinated and worked with a team of helpers and supporters across the division - at nearly 20 square miles one of the largest in the county.

Commuters returning to Berkhamsted on 30th March were encouraged by the Tring and Berkhamsted Liberal Democrats who staged a protest against poor rail services and the high charges for travel and parking.
