West Herts Liberal Democrat Congratulate their Colleagues on a Local Election Success in Abbotts Langley

25 Jun 2015

Elections for Abbotts Langley Parish Council were due to take place across the parish on May 7th, the same day as the General Election.

Sadly, one of the Labour candidates for the five seats in the Leavesden Ward died between close of nominations and election day. Under electoral rules, this meant that the election in this ward had to be run again. The first available opportunity was yesterday, 24th June, 2013. Unusually, parish elections in Abbotts Langley are held on Wednesdays, not on Thursdays.

Parish Councillor Sara Bedford reports, "On a 24% turnout, the Liberal Democrat vote was up by 15.0%. The Conservative vote was down by 15.5%. Despite Labour working harder than they had ever done before in Abbotts Langley and the Labour vote share was almost unchanged with a small increase of just 0.5%."

The Conservatives were only able to field one candidate out of the five.

Sara concluded, "Thank you to everyone who ensured that Jean, Brenda, Jane, David and John were safely returned to Abbots Langley aParish Council tonight."
