Tring Liberal Democrats Enjoy a Pre-Christmas Social Evening
Tring Liberal Democrats enjoyed a lively pre-Christmas Social Evening in Wigginton last Saturday, 8th December. As the Party prepares for a resumption of political campaigning in the Spring a series of planning and social events have been arranged between January and Easter. Last Saturday's event was a successful trial run with good conversation, fine wines and some interesting cheeses.
After the event, Nick Hollinghurst, Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Tring & the Villages said, "There are lots of serious social issues to be tackled at the moment. Tax avoidance by wealthy individuals, companies and foreign multinationals is one. The problem of affordable care for the elderly and those with disabilities or longterm health problems is another. Young people who could benefit from developing practical skills and vocational training have never really had as much help as we give the academically gifted. This is another imbalance we need to address - by means of apprenticeships, better Further Education and the boosting of economically important (and very interesting!) subjects such as engineering, electronics, computer science and logistics."
He concluded, "In the ensuing debate we need to ensure that our distinctive Liberal Democratic voice in favour of fairness, practicality and compassion is heard loud and clear!"
