PLAQUE

Explore Hemel Hempstead Old Town's Heritage

While English Heritage operates the National Blue Plaque Scheme in which a blue plaque is placed on a building where an individual of national historical importance lived, Dacorum BC has developed this concept together with with Dacorum Heritage Trust volunteers by marking places of general interest in Hemel Hempstead's Old Town.

It includes buildings and sites of local historical importance with key facts about the areas architectural, historic and social history. The trail features the history of the Old Town and covers from Queensway to Piccotts End. It celebrates a significant number of historic buildings including St Mary's Church, The Bury, the Old Town Hall, Oak House, Quaker Meeting House, the Old Fire Station and a number of historic public houses.

The Heritage Trail is free to all. People can participate by picking up a leaflet, available from Civic Offices (in Tring, Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead), the Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead and directly from the Dacorum Heritage Trust.

By using the leaflet people can visit the historic sites on a self-guided tour which takes approximately 1 hour.

You can follow the trail in any direction and can just walk the parts you find the most interesting. More details can be found at www.dacorumlooknofurther.co.uk

Rock Band Music Workshop

... Form A Band ... Make Music ... Meet New Friends ... DBC are excited to be running cool rock band sessions for young musicians aged 11-17 years with KZR Music. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn to arrange, play and perform as a small ensemble under the guidance of a professional teacher/musician. Every band is made up of the classic rock line up (vocals/bass/drums/guitar/keys) and is carefully put together taking age, ability and tastes into consideration. The aim of these sessions is to give each student the experience of playing in a live band with a dedicated instructor and to provide an opportunity for students to meet new musical friends. The climax of the two day session is the big family and friends showcase gig. This professionally staged event is held in The Old Town Hall Cellar Club and makes rock stars out of all our students. They are buzzing with confidence afterwards. This course is not suitable for beginners - applicants should have at least 2 years' experience of playing their instrument.
