A major new policy was announced at the Autumn LibDem Conference in Glasgow last month.

All Reception, Year One and Year Two pupils will be given a hot, hearty, FREE lunch every school day from next September.

The policy was a key recommendation at a recent review of school food produced independently for the Dept of Education. Pilot schemes run proved that all schoolchildren who ate lunch were academically months ahead of their peers elsewhere - as well as being more likely to eat vegetables at lunchtime.

The scheme will also be extended to disadvantaged students in further education and sixth form colleges.

Nick Clegg summed up in his closing speech "My ambition is provide free school meals for all primary school children.

"The Conservatives have made it clear that their priority is to help some families over others, with a tax break for married couples."

"We, however, will help all families."
