David Barnsdale Inscription

Citizens of Tring well remember the crowds gathered five years ago at the town's war memorial in Church Square to pay their respects to Corporal David Barnsdale, 24, from 33 Engineer Regiment who was killed in Afghanistan when caught in the blast of a roadside bomb. Corporal Barnsdale was in command of a Royal Engineers Search Team. He and his team were responsible for the detection of improvised explosive devices in areas deemed to be high risk.

He and his search team had been deployed near Gereshk in Helmand Province, working towards the construction of a new checkpoint and patrol base to enhance the security of the local population.

At the ceremony in 2010 there had not been time to add David's name to the memorial. Later his name was recorded on a temporary plaque affixed to the stonework.

This year the people of Tring were pleased to see that his name has now been carved into the memorial with lead-filled letters as with the other names

The photograph shows the recently completed inscription.
