Snow clearing - dos and dont's

With winter weather on its way it is good to remind ourselves of how to be a good neighbour by helping keep paths clear of snow, especially helping those neighbours who are elderly or disabled.

Basically:

• Never use hot water to melt the snow - it just ends up freezing, making it more dangerous
• After clearing the snow spread salt or even sand / ash help melt snow or provide grip. They will also help stop the ground re-freezing after it was cleared of snow.
• Council grit bins can be used to spread on public roads and pavements but not on private property.
