Saving Ticket Offices for Tring and Berkhamsted
After the Conservative Government’s U-turn on rail ticket offices, Victoria Collins, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Harpenden & Berkhamsted said:
“Closing our train station offices was an awful idea which would have had a terrible impact on passengers. The voices of thousands, including many from Hertfordshire, have helped to bring this to a screeching halt. A massive congratulations to all those who wrote into the consultation, spread the word and stood against this proposal.
Two local stations of Berkhamsted and Tring train stations alone had over 1,2 million entries and exits in 2021-2022. Thousands of commuters - young and old - regular and occasional commuters, varying abilities and people travelling locally or much further afield - all brought through and into our towns on the railway. Removing train ticket offices would reduce accessibility for our local community, potentially make travel more expensive and disenfranchise many parts of our community.
Ultimately these proposals would have made it harder to use the train and I’m pleased we’ve been able to stop these changes. Now we must do more to help anyone, whatever their ability, use our trains with confidence.”
