Sammy Barry has been selected to stand for the Liberal Democrats as their candidate for the Hemel Hempstead Division in the Hertfordshire County Council Elections to be held on 4th May, 2017.

Sammy Barry is the President of University of Nottingham Liberal Youth and is a co-founder of University of Nottingham's current Animal Rights and Welfare Society. She is in her final year studying for a degree. When not at University Sammy lives in Hemel Hempsted and has worked for Hertfordshire County Council's Youth Connexions project.

Sammy said, "I have lived in Grovehill since I was very young and am proud of the fact that I grew up and went to school in the area. This, along with being a politics student has led to me taking an interest in local issues and I would love to have the chance to help shape the local society.

There is no one event or person that inspired me to stand. My inspiration to stand for public office comes from a variety of sources - starting with teachers when I was still in school and including my university experience. Working within the local community has allowed me to get a grip on what the issues really are and how people feel. I enjoy talking to people and also seek to help where possible."

She concluded, "A skill that I could bring is the knowledge of what younger people have to face through my own experience. I have also worked with young people and feel that I could bring a well-rounded view of how young people feel to the council."
