Responding to the Government's announcement on the public health funding settlement, Cllr Nick Hollinghurst, County Councillor for Tring and the Villages said: "Here in Hertfordshire our funding for Public Health will increase by 10% per annum for the next two years. This is the largest percentage increase in Britain and is appropriate for a county where the population has increased so much over the last 10 years. The extra money will help Hertfordshire tackle a number of Public Health issues including rising obesity, alcohol abuse and smoking."

He added: "With Hertfordshire receiving over 20% more funding over the next few years it just goes to show how we were let down by the Labour government which historically never invested enough in the public health needs of our county".

Cllr Hollinghurst concluded, "However, just at the moment, the biggest health concern in Hertfordshire is the recent cut in budgets for mental health. We should remember - there is no health without mental health!"
