Please Don't Worry About the Tring Park Notices
You may have seen some Legal Notices about land and paths and "lawful pastimes" and so on, which also displayed a large map. Sorry the quality of the reproduction of the map is so poor - but please don't worry.
I have now spoken to our Head of Rights of Way.
These Notices are entirely precautionary on the part of the landowner and have no effect on existing paths.
The only effects are that the notices will prevent people claiming
(1) that there has been a long-term (20 years) use of paths on those areas or long-term use of part of the land for "lawful sports and past-times" that might lead to the establishment public rights of way
(2) or expose the land to a claim that it should be registered as a village green.
However
(1) until 2026 historical claims (essentially claims made on the basis of old documents) can still be made irrespective of the notices
(2) for village green claims there is a window of opportunity of one year from the date of the notice for a claim to be lodged (nearly expired)
(3) a claim based on the unobstructed and continuous use of a path could still be made on those parcels of land if the end of the 20 year period came before the date of the notice
More importantly, I have noticed that, although the OS map used for the notice bears the inscription "Tring Park" in one of the areas marked in red, this is the land is by the Mansion (Tring Park School) and at the back of the Memorial Garden. It lies to the NORTH of the A41 and to the south of the B4635 (London Road). This is indeed part of the historic park.
However, the publicly owned "Tring Park" owned by DBC is to the SOUTH of the A41.
So all's well with our park!
