Personal Care For Older or Disabled People at Home Will Save Lives
Parliamentary Candidate for Harpenden & Berkhamsted says Lib Dem plans for free personal care for older or disabled people at home will save lives.
Victoria Collins says free personal care, plus raising care workers' pay, would end the hospital crisis and help people stay in their own homes for the care they need.
This latest Lib Dem policy announcement comes as a new health survey commissioned by the Harpenden & Berkhamsted Liberal Democrats shows 87% of respondents agree with paying social care staff more, with a special, higher minimum wage for carers.
The survey also highlights the problems faced by unpaid carers, with 78% of people who responded saying unpaid carers, looking after family or friends, need more respite.
The Lib Dem plans on social care would be funded by reversing tax cuts given to big banks by the Conservatives.
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Harpenden & Berkhamsted, Victoria Collins said:
“It’s heartbreaking that for many people, essential care is not available. On the doorstep across Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Tring and the surrounding villages I hear stories of families being left to pick up the pieces because the care system isn’t there for them.”
“And the fact that people who are ready to be discharged are stuck in hospital due to a lack of caring capacity is hitting our NHS.”
“It’s clear the Conservatives are completely failing and they cannot be trusted to provide everyone with the high-quality social care they need. So it’s time for change.”
