People freeze in Dacorum as Council goes slow on insulating homes
Dacorum Lib Dems are calling for urgent action on the cost of living for Dacorum residents which will also help to address the Climate Emergency.
Three years after the Conservative administration in Dacorum were embarrassed into supporting a Lib Dem Motion to recognise the Climate Emergency, and two years after the Cabinet first declared a "Fabric First" approach, questions at Full Council in July revealed that Dacorum has actually gone slower on insulating homes, since 2019.
Dacorum plans for insulating homes don't match the rhetoric, with the pace of progress actually dropping, since an "emergency" was declared. Tories are talking the talk but not walking the walk.
Lib Dem Cllr and Environment spokesperson, Adrian England says: "It is shocking that Dacorum has responded to an emergency by taking its foot OFF the brakes - we are calling on the Dacorum Cabinet to act now, and switch to fast, widespread insulation improvements, which can be applied to more homes and spread the maximum energy savings before it gets cold."
Cllr Simy Dhyani, Housing Spokesperson added: "The Council must review plans to insulate existing homes quicker, and think outside the box, if necessary, by redeveloping energy-inefficient 1930s homes to build 21st Century social-rent homes that will cut heating bills in half."
