Not Much Change in Council By Elections This Week
There were only two changes this week. The first was in Eltham North in Greenwich LB where the Conservatives gained the seat from Labour. There was a moderate increase in vote share for Lib Dems, but Labour were down and UKIP and the Greens crashed.
Labour held the Hitchin Oughton ward on N Herts District, despite a significant loss of vote share to an independent. The Lib Dem vote share increased by 10% but the Conservatives and Greens both lost support.
In Wandsworth LB Labour held on with an increased vote share, Lib Dems achieved a small advance, while the Conservatives fell back and the Greens crashed yet again.
The second change was in Charnwood on Shepsted Town Council. There the large UKIP vote from 2015 simply evaporated and the the Conservative recovered the seat in a gain from UKIP.
In Horsham the Conservatives got a good hold, Lib Dems were steady but Labour and UKIP fell back.
On Felixstowe Town the Conservatives held on comfortably though the Lib Dem candidate did reasonably well.
Since May 6th the Lib Dems have made 22 gains in council by elections, with only one lost seat. All other parties (especially the Conservatives) have suffered net losses and support for both UKIP and the Greens is very significantly reduced in election after election.
