Restoration of the River Chess
Work has been undertaken (in consultation with the Wild Trout Trust, Environment Agency and the River Chess Association ) to assess what can be done to restore the River Chess at Scotsbridge Mill. The proposals would include improving the habitat by narrowing the over wide channel, addressing erosion issues and allowing free movement of fish up and down stream of Scotsbridge Mill. In-channel features could be added to create pools, slacks, riffles and backwaters by redistributing river bed material to form flow deflectors and fish refuges. In several places there is bank erosion which has led to the river breaching the bank and flooding the public footpath. Controlled access could be facilitated in a number of places by installing wooden steps to allow people and dogs in and out of the water and prevent further erosion. The site is very popular with the general public and some appropriate signage would raise awareness of the importance of the river, its history, and ecology. We would be interested to know whether you think this project should be pursued.

Old Police Station
We have had numerous complaints about the state of the grounds surrounding the old police station. We have been pressing the police for several months to clear and clean it up. We have now been informed that there will be filming taking place on the site, probably next week, and an agreement has been made that the film company will clear up the site before it starts filming there. Vegetation maintenance works are planned for the railway embankments between Watford and Croxley. This will include felling, coppicing, pollarding, and crown reduction. No trees subject to TPOs or Conservation Area status are involved. The work started on December 10th and will last about 2 months.
