Japanese Knotweed is one of the invasive non-native plants with the ability to cause serious problems. It can grow through tarmac and cause structural damage to property. The new community protection system can be used to require landowners to control or prevent the growth of Japanese Knotweed and other similar plants. It starts to grow very early in the spring , in any type of soil, and can grow as much as 20centimetres a day and reach 3 metres by June. It spreads through rhizomes, fragments and cut stems.
