News from Rickmansworth Liberal Democrats - Three Rivers, a Lib Dem Run Council

11 Aug 2016
Rickmansworth

We wish all our readers a good summer break. If you are caring for children do visit some of the splendid Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) play areas. Some have outdoor gym equipment for adults - give it a go if you haven't already done so

.…………………………………………….

Do you know Bishops Wood ? It is in the ownership and care of TRDC and has recently had time, effort and resources put into improvement work. Go along White Hill from Batchworth Heath, until just before the junction with Shrubbs Road , leading to Woodcock Hill. It is on the right hand side and well worth a visit.

Maple Lodge Conservation Society has its annual Discovery Day on 14th August, 11.00am-4.00pm. The reserve is one of Rickmansworth's hidden secrets and is home to a rich variety of wildlife, waterfowl, woodland birds, bats and butterflies. There are 2 lakes and many hides to explore, some with wheel chair access. On the day there are guided tours, light refreshments and plants available. Entry and parking are free. Turn left ( if coming from Rickmansworth) at the traffic lights in Maple Cross, towards Thames Water.

………………………………………………………………….

We do hope as many people as possible will attend the local HS2 Event event, on 11th August 2.00-8.00pm and repeated on 17th September 11.00am-3.00pm at Maple Cross Community Centre. HS2 will have a significant impact on this area and we have worked hard to get HS2 to come so people can see the plans, ask questions and express their views.

………………………………………………………………….

We are very concerned about Herts County Council proposals to cut

a) support for people with homelessness problems. Many are isolated, have learning difficulties and mental health problems.

b) day care services. Day centres are a key part of social care services that provide for older people and their needs, and support carers. Much attention is being given to keeping older people out of hospital. Isolation is debilitating and leads to poorer health. Day centres are a vital part of integrated health and care. If you share our concern please express it to your county councillor.

…………………

In 2014/5 there were approx. 12,500 fly tipping offences in this County. I am sure we all resent the impact on our environment of the illegal dumping of waste. The ongoing effort underway by the Waste Aware Herts Partnership to create a more consistent approach to these offences, with clear reporting, better communication and a more consistent level of penalties is welcome. We wish it every success and hope it makes speedy progress. Good practice in waste disposal must be encouraged and illegal dumping discouraged and penalised.
