We are glad to report that well over 14,500 residents have signed up to the new garden waste collection arrangements which started on 11th July - this means the financial target has been met. This means that about 57% of local households have joined the scheme. The removal of bins from residents who are not signing up will start on 12th September. If you are not joining the new scheme but wish to keep your brown bin, that is fine.

Are you a parent or grandparent ? Home-Start is a local voluntary organisation which matches volunteers to families who are under stress, to offer support, friendship and practical help. Would you be willing to use your parenting experience to help parents and young children ? Volunteers are needed who have 2/3 hours a week to spare. Among matters raised at the Rickmansworth Local Area Forum on 7th July were

a) Has a date been fixed for the Wharf Lane hearing - yes, 22nd November.

b) Anything new about the Lidl/ Fire Station site - nothing further to date.

c) Has anything further been heard about a possible J17 motorway service station - nothing further.

d) Has there been a planning application to build a hotel on the Travis Perkins site in Church Street? No application yet, but the landowner is working to address concerns over the initial draft proposals . There is no indication of a timescale for the submission of a planning application. If/when there is a application we will let you know.

Do You Know Anyone who would like to make a difference at a local school ? Maple Cross school has parent governors, and is looking for 2 community governors to work with the school to raise standards, support the work to ensure pupils receive a good all round education, make sure public money is well spent and contribute to decisions about the future direction of the school. Ideally, they would have experience of financial management but enthusiasm and commitment to the role is also important. Induction and ongoing training is provided. Hertfordshire Health and Wellbeing Board has produced some interesting, but depressing , local statistics for 2014/5.

* 19.4% of 4-5yr olds were classified as overweight or obese.

* 55.6% of 15yr olds said they had been bullied in the past couple of months.

* 60,769 adults were known to have depression.

* 8,069 people aged 65+ were known to have dementia.

* 4,493 emergency hospital admissions were for falls injuries to people aged 65+

  • Adult oil painting class given by local artist Andrew Schofield:- Monday evenings 7pm to 9pm at the Mill End Community Centre. Tuesday daytime 11am to 1pm at the Croxley Sports Guild. All abilities, beginners welcome, I will guide you thorough the oil painting process and after the first class you will have an oil painting you can be proud of. All equipment provided.   • Artistsmeet at WatersmeetThursday 21st July - Friday 26th August 2016 Take some time to reflect at Artistsmeet this summer, as the space hosts a very special exhibition dedicated to local heritage and memories, shared by residents at our 'Leavesden Heritage Day' event in Leavesden Country Park and by those taking part in our 'Beyond the Page' project.
  • Ricky Green Social are a group from Rickmansworth who meet on the first Saturday every month to socialise and work on greening the area. Meetings take place at the Cafe in the Park at the Aquadrome - 11.00am to 1.00pm.
  • Ricky Folk meet at 8.15pm in the back bar of the Conservative Club, Bury Lane on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.You can sing, play or both or simply come and listen. No entrance fee and drinks are at club prices. In exchange for the facilities they entertain members of the Club at summer events each year and participate in other local events.
  • Three Rivers Museum in Basing House next to the library, have new displays featuring the Great War & St John's Ambulance - Museum open Mon to Fri 2-4pm, Sat 10am to 4pm. Free. Support your local museum.
  • The Mill Photography Club has now produced its programme for the second half of this year. You can find it on the website www.millphotos.com .The club meets Fridays, fortnightly at The Mill at Berry Lane Methodist Church. All welcome, any standard, no fees.
  • Croxley Camera Club is the photographic society for Three Rivers district and is known as the 'friendly club'. They have a range of photographic interests and skills within the club with photographic advice available from specialists in many genres including nature, landscape, studio and other areas.
