Recent works have taken place at the Withey Beds - our local nature reserve. The work has been done by the Environment Agency and Watford Piscators and is designed to restore existing features and create new ones. The natural flow of the rivers has been protected and shallow areas provided for spawning. There is a fry nursery, flood refuge area and a nursery area for juvenile amphibians and invertebrates. The shallow margins ensure the water warms up quickly, providing conditions for fish to survive and grow. The final phase will include 2 new interpretation boards and a pasture pump so grazing cattle can draw water from the river when they need a drink. The annual guided tour is on Sunday 15th May, meet at the Batchworth Lock Centre at 2.00pm. Find out more at http://www.thewitheybeds.org.uk/

Please note that the Public Spaces Protection Order came into effect in Three Rivers Distrct on the 1st of April. This replaces a number of out of date by laws and creates a more consistent approach when dealing with issues such as dog fouling and excluding dogs from play areas. This is to deal with a small minority of dog owners who sometimes do not behave responsibly. Feedback from residents and other dog owners has consistently raised these issues and requested stronger action.

Every 5 years HCC's Rights of Way Service publishes a definitive map and statement of public rights of way. It is never complete and further applications can and are made all the time. Most changes relate to recording historical routes or changing the status of routes (usually upgrading) or altering the route. The map can be viewed at www.hertsdirect.org/rowmap

Songs of the Old Continent (including works by Grieg, Sibelius. Duparc and Strauss) and Arias from the New World ( a selection of modern American Arias) can be enjoyed at St Mary's Church, on Friday 15th April, at 7.30pm.
