National Non-Domestic Rates
Under the present arrangements many local authorities have to pay a levy to central government on the income they receive from growth in business rates. Each authority collects business rates, these are pooled centrally before being redistributed as determined by Central Government . TRDC is teaming up with HCC, Broxbourne, North Herts, Stevenage and Welwyn and Hatfield to establish a Business Rate Pool. This Pool will pay a single, smaller levy to the Government. This innovative arrangement will allow each authority involved to keep a greater proportion of the income from business rates, giving greater financial freedom to reinvest in the local area.

TRDC works hard to keep the area attractive to business. We hope this extra income will help maintain quality services and help keep council tax as low as possible. The benefits from increased local employment and apprenticeships are very welcome.

Just For Information - TRDC owns 720 hectares of park and open spaces land. 240 hectares are woodland and the rest is a mixture of local nature reserves, common land, parks, open spaces, playing fields and play areas. This land includes 15k-20k trees

A local resident has recently been fined after an Abatement Notice was served under the Environmental Protection Act (1990) because of the nuisance caused by the accumulation of an unacceptable number of deposits of dog's mess in the back garden. The resident failed to clear the garden in the required time and was prosecuted. The fine was £100 + £200 costs +£20 victim compensation ( to the neighbour not to the dog !).

Work to Trees

Contractors for TRDC will be carrying out work on TRDC trees adjacent to the Met.Line and M25 in Pheasants and Solomons Woods over the next 2 weeks, starting on January 7th. There will be minimal impact on the public though some stretches of the path adjacent to the railway and access to the path under the M25 will be closed off during the work. All Public Rights of Way and the footbridge over the M25 will remain open.
