Following recent press coverage Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) is receiving a large volume of calls about suspected giant hogweed. Most calls refer to non-toxic cow parsley. Information is going to be put on the TRDC website which will explain the difference between the toxic giant hogweed ( purple stem with spikes, spotted leaves etc.) and cow parsley. TRDC will of course work to remove any of the toxic variety found anywhere in our parks and open spaces.

The planning application for the installation of a radio base station comprising 25m monopole on the wide highway verge to the south east of London Rd, adjacent to the slip road onto Harefield Rd, will be determined at the TRDC Planning Committee this evening. The recommendation is for refusal. Members of the public are welcome to attend. We are very concerned about recent Government suggestions that such monopoles will in future not require planning permission. Local people will certainly have views about any such proposal.

We are delighted that the appropriate parliamentary committee has taken the view that the case for a Hillingdon tunnel for HS2 has not been made convincingly.

The Ebury Way Bridge repairs will take about 3 weeks longer than expected as the condition of the under sections, not accessible until work started, turns out to be worse than expected. New materials have been ordered and will be installed as soon as possible.

At this week's TRDC Council Meeting a Liberal Democrat motion was carried recognising the outstanding support work for local young families carried out by the HomeStart charity and its volunteers. 700 families are helped every year, including 120 local families. We consider that Herts County Council's decision to abandon this service is short sighted, and will lead to more troubled families needing greater, more expensive intervention later on……………………………………………
