Rickmansworth

Thank you to everyone who responded to our question about local views on Sunday trading - very interesting range of views.

………………………………………………..

The official opening of Swannells Walk took place last week. These are the new homes built by Watford Community Housing Association on the land behind the Queens Drive. There are 27 new 2 and 3 bedroom rented properties with one fully wheel chair accessible. The new residents seem very pleased with the development. There is also a play facility open to all local young people. Adjacent to the new homes is the new Chorleywood Club which opened last month. It offers splendid community facilities. It is well worth a visit. The whole development is scheduled to be finished by early 2016.

We were astonished to learn that road flooding is regarded as a low priority! Ringway (HCC's highways contractor for this area) has stated that a road would have to be impassable for at least 10 hours before any action would be taken. However blocked drains are a major concern in many local places causing flooding of homes and other premises, danger and gross inconvenience. We need a regular gulley, drain clearing programme which gives confidence in the maintenance and management of this problem.

On 18th September there is a special cinema experience at Watersmeet - The Battle of Britain 75. It tells the epic story of the greatest aerial conflict of WW2. It includes rare archive footage from the conflict, with modern day RAF personnel bringing the compelling stories to life, and includes a close up tour of a Spitfire and veteran fighter pilots recounting their memories. All profits go to the RAF Association, the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust. Time - 7.30-10pm tickets £10 adults/ concessions.

There has been some concern expressed about the fencing of very small areas of Croxley Common Moor. This is to try and protect some rare Slate Sober Moths. On 20th September you can check for yourself. The Countryside Management Service is leading a guided walk on the Moor from 10.00 - 11.30am to look at the work carried out last year and see the sites where this year's work will be done. This opportunity will be used to explain the works, what they will involve and the long term benefit to the SSSI. The meeting point will be at the Mill Lane entrance, some areas are boggy so please wear appropriate footwear.
