Rickmansworth

In June we reported the sad death of Sheila Taylor, former Mill End resident and a councillor on Three Rivers District Council. We passed on the information that her family plan to have a special service in her memory at St Peters Church and a number of people have asked when this service will take place. We understand that it will be in the New Year. When we know the date we will pass the information on to you.

A letter has been received from a Government Minister asking for local views on Sunday trading. The current rules limiting the opening of shops over a certain size to 6 hours between 10am and 6pm (apart from Easter Sunday and Christmas Day when it falls on a Sunday when they must remain closed all day) were established over 20 years ago. The Minister points out that the consumer environment has changed significantly and high streets face growing competition from online and mobile phone shopping. He 'considers the current rules are unduly restrictive, stifling efficiency and competitiveness, and reducing consumer choice'. He does not spell out what the government is proposing, but asks whether there should be a relaxation of Sunday trading rules - he is aware some people will not support this. Have you any views on this ? If the rules are to be relaxed should it be on a national or local basis ?

Hotel Rumour! We have been asked whether it is correct that Travis Perkins is to close and be replaced by a new hotel. This rumour has been circulating for some months. Someone may, or may not, have such a plan in mind - but no one has approached TRDC Planning Department about it.

………………………………………………………….

TRDC recently held a public consultation on whether there should be changes in the rules about dog control in public places. We thank the 2874 who responded to the survey, 21% were from Rickmansworth. No decisions have yet been made. In the next few weeks TRDC councillors will study the survey results, discuss the issues and make decisions at open meetings. In our experience most local dog owners are responsible but this review has taken place as a result of regular complaints about a minority of dog owners. The agenda item including the survey report is available on the TRDC website on the General Public Services & Community Safety Committee agenda.
