MPs back Small Business Saturday
Local MPs Daisy Cooper and Victoria Collins are calling on local communities to turn out in big numbers to support Small Business Saturday, on Saturday 7th December.
Both are backing the nationwide campaign run by Small Business Britain to showcase the success of small businesses and encourage people to “shop local”.
Daisy Cooper also joined the Small Business Saturday national roadshow team in St Albans on 28th November. They showcased local businesses including Terzetto Stone and Porcelain and Chloe James Lifestyle, and it was the first time the roadshow had visited Hertfordshire as part of their countdown to Small Business Saturday.
Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, said:
“Whether it’s our local shops, hair salons, independent grocers or cafes, small businesses are at the heart of our high street and community here in Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Tring and our villages. We need to do all we can to keep them going. That’s why I’m urging everyone to get out and about and support local businesses this Small Business Saturday.
“Small businesses have faced blow after blow - whether that’s soaring input prices, energy bills, high costs from an unfair business rates system and now the government hiking up taxes. It’s more important than ever that we show our support for them, and shop local.
“I can’t wait to help to showcase our fantastic local businesses this Saturday, hear more about the issues they’re currently facing, and continue to push for better support for them both locally and in Parliament.”
Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, said:
“Here in St Albans, we have thriving high streets and an award-winning market but my message is clear: use it or lose it!
“We’re blessed with a number of small and independent businesses that enrich our community and help our local economy. It’s so important that we support them throughout the year, but especially this Small Business Saturday.
“With Christmas just around the corner, now is a great time to explore independent book shops, clothing stores, pop-up shops, market stalls and more, whilst enjoying our local hospitality businesses too.
“We know small businesses are having a tough time, but they’re the backbone of our economy and I urge everyone to turn out in big numbers to give them a boost.”
On Small Business Saturday, both MPs will be out and about supporting small businesses on their local high streets, and encouraging residents to do the same. They will also be discussing the issues local business owners are facing, and changes needed to better support them.
