London Road, Tring, Crossing at Pound Meadow - Visibility still not good enough

London Road Crossing 2

The crossing over London Road, Tring, at the end of Footpath 41 across the Pound Meadow is used by many people, including hundreds of school children on their way to and from Tesco. Poor visibility here has been a problem for a long time and Herts County Council put in an extension to the safety barrier to help improve matters.

However the height and the width of the hedge along London Road was the biggest problem. It made it difficult, if not impossible, for approaching drivers to see if there was anyone waiting there to cross London Road.

Dacorum Borough Council, who own the Pounsd Meadow, have now made a start on cutting the hedge - and everyone is grateful for that for that.

But Tring's Liberal Democrat County Councillor, Nick Hollinghurst, feels that DBC have a lot more work to do.

He said, "The job's only partly done. I need to point out to them that the visibility at Pound Meadow is still not good enough and the height of the hedge needs to come down by at least another eighteen inches."

"Drivers still will not get a good view and will definitely not be able to see small children. This was tested with the help on one such (thanks for the help). If the child cannot see the driver's face (let alone the rest of the approaching car) then the driver cannot see the child!"

He concluded, "Not only that but they haven't done anything to the hedges at the Station Road end yet either."

Still, things are a bit better - and a bit safer.
