Liberal Democrats hold a Successful East of England Regional Conference in Peterborough

Peterborough Conference

The basic unit of the Liberal Democrats is the Local Party, but local parties together are organised into regions - in our case the East of England Region.

The regional structures exist to provide a wider perspective on policy and development issues of common or joint interest and to support Local parties in terms of campaigning, development, training and recruitment.

It was great to see so many members at the East of England Regional Conference in Peterborough on Saturday 15th September at the Kingsgate Conference Centre at Staplee Way

Attendees, several of whom have already bought all-electric cars, debated the form which a low-carbon economy might take and practical ways to bring it about. They also debated continued devolution policy, took part in training, phoned for Witney by-election candidate Liz Leffman and listened to inspiring keynote speeches from Norman Lamb MP and Lynne Featherstone.

While a Health Minister in the Coalition Government, Norman Lamb did much to raise the profile of mental illness and campaign for parity of esteem for mental health patients and treatment within the NHS. Also a former minister Lynne Featherstone jntroduce a large number of important and practical advances in the fields of civil liberties, women's issues and gender equality.

Special thanks to Conference Committee Chair Gill Collings, conference organiser Lorna Dupré and all who made conference happen. The picture shows Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, addressing the Conference.
