Liberal Democrats Continue to Make Gains in Principal Council By Elections
Starting from the day after the General Election i.e. 6th May, 2016, the Liberal Democrats have now gained 35 council seats in principal local authority by elections.
They have lost only three.
This means the Liberal Democrats have achieved a net gain of 32 seats.
In contrast the Conservatives lost 38 seats and gained only 15 - a net loss of 23.
Labour's performance was just as dismal. Labour lost 24 seats and gained 11 to give a net loss of 13.
And of course, along the way, the Liberal Democrats won an additional seat in Parliament - Richmond Park. This increased the Lib Dem representation in Westminster to 9.
Outside of the councils and Parliament, the Liberal Democrats are also doing well. Membership is steadily growing and has now reached over 85,000.
