The Liberal Democrats have launched their Manifesto for Hertfordshire, which focuses on delivering the services people want. Launching the party's manifesto, Liberal Democrat Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst (Central Watford and Oxhey), Leader of the Opposition on Hertfordshire County Council said:
"Liberal Democrat local priorities for Hertfordshire County Council are:
- Investing budget surpluses into improved highway maintenance and repair,
- better bus services and cross-county connections
- reducing traffic speeds in residential areas
- more crossing patrols and safety on the way to school
- cutting waste and spin at County Hall
- introducing more flexibility into the part-night lighting policy
"Liberal Democrats listen to local people and we shape our policies around what they tell us is important.
"That is why in Government
- the Liberal Democrats have raised the basic taxable allowance to £10,000 - to help hardworking people in today's tough times
- the Liberal Democrats have pegged the higher tax rate at 45% and capped taxeable claims - so the very rich are now paying more of a fair share
- the Liberal Democrats are delivering more apprenticeships than ever before - to provide jobs and careers for today's young people
- the Liberal Democrats are delivering the 'pupil premium' - giving a helping hand up to disadvantaged pupils
- the Liberal Democrats are delivering fairer pensions - with the basic state pension increased to £144 in today's money from 2017."
