LibDems celebrate 2017 progress in Hemel Hempstead

A well-attended summer party for Liberal Democrat members and election helpers in Hemel Hempstead was held to thank people for their hard work, to celebrate progress and to discuss exciting opportunities for future activity and campaigning.

Stephen Wilson, Chair of the Hemel Hempstead Branch of West Herts Liberal Democrat Local Party thanked everyone who had worked so hard to get Ron re-elected to Hertfordshire County Council in May and then carried on to work for Sally Symington, who stood as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hemel Hempstead in the General Election in June.

In his address to those present, Stephen Wilson, said that the party must now consolidate and expand its existing campaigning team in preparation for the Dacorum Borough Council elections in 2019. He took the opportunity to welcome the many new members who had joined since the 2015 General Election.

Ron Tindall, who is the Liberal Democrat Opposition Spokesperson for Adult Care, has already served 8 years on the County Council and was re-elected in May for a further 4-year term.

Sally Symington also spoke to thank those who had worked hard and supported her during the general election, where LibDems increased their vote by 34.5% and came third, in the midst of a national squeeze on anti-Tory tactical votes by Labour, as the Theresa May campaign faltered.

Sally also pointed out that nationally the party was now at its highest membership ever, well over 100,000, well ahead of the Greens and UKIP and with a realistic prospect of recruiting more members than the Conservative Party, whose membership continues to fall.
