Lib Dems on Herts County Council Call for a Review of "Unsuitable" Surface Dressing on Lightly Used Urban Roads
At the Hertfordshire County Council Meeting on 16th July 2019, County Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, who represents Central Watford & Oxhey and is the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Herts County Council proposed a motion calling on HCC to review its use of surface dressing as highway maintenance for urban roads.
His motion was seconded by County Councillor, Steve Jarvis, who represents Royston West & Rural - and is also the North Herts District Councillor for Weston & Sandon and the District Council Cabinet Member responsible for the environment and for leisure.
The wording of the motion was as follows:
"This Council resolves to register its concern \bout the continued use of "stone-chipping" micro-surfacing in urban roads and about the problems this causes in low traffic volume roads and where there are parked cars.
It requests the Executive Member for Highways and the Environment to bring forward a report of the suitability of this treatment and other alternatives."
However the Chairman determined that the motion be not debated and would be referred to the Highways and Environment Cabinet Panel for consideration at its next meeting on 11th September, 2019.
