Lib Dems call for Parliament to be recalled after “shambolic” budget
Liberal Democrat MPs have called on the Government to recall Parliament, which is currently in recess, to fix Kwasi Kwarteng's "shambolic" budget.
The call comes as the pound plummeted to a record low against the dollar, with the collapse in market confidence expected to lead to worsening inflation and spiking interest rates.
People in Hemel are set to face a hammer blow with the aftermath of the budget has been given a "damning vote of no confidence.
The Liberal Democrats are calling for Parliament to be recalled, so that urgent action can be taken to address the unfolding economic disaster. They're also demanding a windfall tax on oil and gas giants to help people and businesses with their bills, a reversal of the changes which will benefit banks and big corporations and new investment in local health services.
Liberal Democrats are calling for:
- A fully implemented windfall tax on oil and gas giants
- A scrapping of the planned cut to corporation tax
- A scrapping of the planned lift on bankers bonus caps
- Guarantee support for businesses with energy costs for one year, not just six months, to provide greater certainty
- freeze domestic energy prices at what they are now, instead of hiking them again next month
- Invest in a winter rescue plan for the NHS to recruit more doctors, dentists and paramedics.
