Lib Dem Councillor Rosemarie Hollinghurst Gets Her Hands Dirty!

This blocked drain in Rossway Lane was causing flooding under the nearby A41 bridge. It was duly reported on the Highway Fault Reporting System. But when the contractors turned up they just removed some mud from a different grid altogether - and recorded the work as completed.

When Rosemarie Hollinghurst, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Aldbury & Wigginton, saw what had gone wrong she swung into action.

With heavy rain falling and a flood building up she located the overgrown grid and dug away the mud and grass to clear it. Then she shovelled excess grit from earlier surfacing work off the road, to stop it being washed into the drain and filling up the silt trap.

She said, "The Conservative-run County Council is failing to manage its contractors. This sort of thing is happening everywhere. It's just not good enough!"
