"When I discovered that my GP surgery had run out of Flu Vaccine - help was near at hand," said Tring resident Nick Hollinghurst. "It wasn't till I asked my wife - who owned and managed Rosemarie Finch Chemist in Dunstable for over 25 years - that I found out that these days you can get a variety of treatments at your local community pharmacy."

So all that was needed was a call to Rooney Pharmacy in Dolphin Square, Tring, and I was offered a convenient 10.00 am appointment the following week."

Nick reported that everything went smoothly - no waiting, a few questions in a quiet consulting room, a painless injection and just a bit of box ticking and a signature to confirm the treatment. "And no charge," he added. "It's all on the NHS as usual."

Nick also is using an electronic repeat prescription service and calls in at Rooney Pharmacy to collect his medication when he receives a text message to say they are ready.

Rooney Pharmacy is located on the corner of Dolphin Square and Frogmore Street near Marks and Spencer. Apart from the usual range of prescrition services and over-the-counter medicines and home remedies the two pharmacists, Qayum Hajee and Nimish Patel are available with lifestyle or travel advice and able to answer most health concerns. The pharmacy is supported by well-trained staff who can supply the usual cosmetics or toiletries for family or baby.

Don't forget your neighbourhood pharmacy, open from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm (5.30 pm on Saturdays) except on Sundays, and usually able to serve or advise you immediately.
