Southern Railway has caused disruption to the travel arrangements, not only of regular commuters, but also of anyone who has been planning to use their services at week ends. Many a family outing has been spoiled by an unexpected cancellation of trains with no alternative arrangements being offered.

Now passengers in Tring and Berkhamsted are finally getting confirmation that they will receive some recompense for the inconvenience and disruption to their lives caused by Southern's poor service

Nigel Taylor, the Liberal Democrat Candidate in Berkhamsted for the County Council elections, has just received confirmation that he will get a refund of £240 from Southern Railway.

Nigel and his fellow Liberal Democrat colleagues on the county council and elsewhere have been lobbying for nearly a year for compensation for hard pressed commuters up and down the line. At last their efforts have started to produce tangible results in terms of cash refunds.

But of course what people really want are reliable, affordable and accessible rail services... and if we had those we'd probably have fewer cars on the roads - another benefit all of its own!

For details of how to claim see lower right page 2 of the Liberal Democrat leaflet now being delivered across the two towns.
