Hertfordshire Home Safety Service

Hertfordshire is one of the safest counties in England and Wales but when crimes are committed, the victims still suffer. Just hearing about crime can make others feel scared. Hertfordshire Home Safety Service (HHSS) helps by providing a range of free and low cost services, using Proceeds of Crime funds. This means money recovered from criminals will go directly to helping secure your homes and making you feel safer.

HHSS provides:

A Home Security Service

Providing security measures such as:

• Advice on home security and safety and rogue trader advice
• Fitting/maintaining locks on external doors, windows and garage doors, and side or rear gates
• Fitting prikka-strip panels on fencing or walls
• Advice on how to register as vulnerable customer with utilities

You can have security devices fitted and preventative work carried out free of charge, if you are:

• Over 60 or Registered Disabled
• Victims of Domestic Burglary or Domestic Violence
• Deemed vulnerable to risk of falls or referred by HCS workers

Fire Safety Checks

Giving fire safety advice, installing smoke alarms or checking those already in place. If required, further fire safety support is offered from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service by calling free on 0300 1234046

Falls Prevention

In addition to falls prevention advice, the fitting of small items of equipment to assist in the prevention of falls and some minor safety improvements will also be offered after an appropriate assessment by the HHSS technician.

Where appropriate, a referral into the Falls Liaison Service for an assessment and potential access to a free ten week strength and balance course can also be made.

For full stair length grab rails and items or work of a larger nature, the technician will make a referral on behalf of the Service User to Hertfordshire County Council's Referral Management teams.

HHSS is made up a partnership of: the County Council, the Fire and Rescue Service, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Medequip Assistive Technology Ltd
