David Cameron Joins the Liberal Democrats

Flattery

Rather belatedly David Cameron has joined the Liberal Democrats in supporting tax cuts for the lower paid. Four years after patronisingly telling Nick Clegg that this was "a nice idea, but we couldn't possibly afford it" David Cameron has finally agreed with Nick that raising the income tax threshold is an effective and fair way to help the lower paid.

Yesterday David Cameron announced his plans to raise the personal tax allowance to £12,500 - something that Lib Dems have long been campaigning for.

While we're flattered that Davis Cameron has finally come over to supporting our policy we have to point out that we too have moved on and are now aiming at a threshold of £13,500 and on to a situation where no-one earning at minimum wage levels - which we also intend to raise - will in future pay tax.

But we're also saddened that his chum, George Osborne has had to go and spoil everything by announcing sharper and harsher cuts to benefits and tax credits. Oh, and George and David are also planning to give huge tax cuts to the richest 10%.

We Liberal Democrats plan to deliver tax cuts for those on lower incomes, while still requiring the top ten per cent to support the country adequately. We also want businesses who make profit here to support the well-ordered and stable society that makes their profit possible - by paying sensible corporation tax.

Only the Liberal Democrats are working towards a Fairer Society for Us All.
