Dacorum: Changes to Kerbside Recycling from November
Dacorum Borough Council has agreed plans for a simpler new waste and recycling collection scheme from November this year. This will make it easier to recycle more at the kerbside and take the borough towards a recycling rate of 60%.
The new waste collection service using three wheelie bins and a kitchen caddy, will include:
- Weekly collection of food waste;
- Fortnightly collection of mixed dry recycling (to include cans, plastic, paper, card and glass - currently collected in separate boxes, bins and baskets.);
- Fortnightly collection of 'landfill' non-recyclable waste;
- Between February and November a fortnightly collection of garden waste.
Councillor Nick Hollinghurst said: "I welcome anything that makes it easier for our residents to recycle. I hope that Dacorum's new scheme will enable our borough to catch up with the high rates of recycling in LD controlled councils such as Watford and Three Rivers."
"Under the new scheme tape and glue on cardboard will be prevented from contaminating green, compostible waste. The whole process should become not only easier, but more efficient in several ways. The new collection should also reduce issues with insects in bins during warmer weather."
