Contactless Payments for Three Hertfordshire Stations

PAYG Contactless at WGC Station

Govia Thameslink Railway are introducing contactless payments at three stations, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Welham Green.

It's a Pay-As-You-Go system and generally offers the cheapest single fares - depending on the time of day - towards London. Travellers simply touch their contactless payment card or smartphone payment app on the yellow card readers at the station.

In London and the surrounding areas, around 60% of all pay as you go journeys are now made using contactless.

But it's not for everybody. For one thing it only provides single tickets, and for another it doesn't enable railcard use.

Just the same, it will be useful for many people in a hurry and will take the pressure off other ticket purchase systems.

Nevertheless, if you're not a regular traveller and are coming back to the same station, it may still pay you to arrive a bit earlier before the train and plan ahead!
