Apsley - what to make of the lakes?
Yes! Apsley has lakes!
But you'd only know about them if you are in the Apsley Scouts or a keen angler… (we couldn't get closer than these pictures)
The Conservative Councils at Borough and County levels are sadly neglecting the need to get on and make the Durrant Lakes area more accessible for a pleasant walk.
You can't get a clear view of the lakes from the canal towpath, so at present the only access route is via Durrants Hill, where there is more car traffic coming into one of the three poor air quality soot-spots in Dacorum!
The idea is supposed to be to build a footbridge, giving access from London Road, but it is clear the Masterplan is really about housing potential nearby. Lib Dem Councillors are calling for partnership working, allowing pedestrian and cycle access to be created through Two Waters, with the option to circle-back, via the Grand Union canal towpath, to Heath Park. -We want this to be reachable and enjoyable, using active transport - such as walking and cycling.
Dacorum Council has sat on the 2017 Masterplan for three years, waiting for developers to fund the work. Cllr William Allen is continuing to put pressure on the Council, to encourage them to make much better use of a great leisure and wildlife space for the public's enjoyment.

(The Two Waters Masterplan says: These natural assets play a key role in defining the character of the Two Waters area. The future development of Two Waters needs to carefully consider the relationship with existing open spaces and water ways, to ensure these assets are protected and continue to contribute to local character and amenity.
