We are glad to report that well over 14,500 residents have signed up to the new garden waste collection arrangements which started on 11th July - this means the financial target has been met. This means that about 57% of local households have joined the scheme. The removal of bins from residents who are not signing up will start on 12th September. If you are not joining the new scheme but wish to keep your brown bin, that is fine.

Are you a parent or grandparent ? Home-Start is a local voluntary organisation which matches volunteers to families who are under stress, to offer support, friendship and practical help. Would you be willing to use your parenting experience to help parents and young children ? Volunteers are needed who have 2/3 hours a week to spare. Among matters raised at the Rickmansworth Local Area Forum on 7th July were
a) Has a date been fixed for the Wharf Lane hearing - yes, 22nd November.
b) Anything new about the Lidl/ Fire Station site - nothing further to date.
c) Has anything further been heard about a possible J17 motorway service station - nothing further.
d) Has there been a planning application to build a hotel on the Travis Perkins site in Church Street? No application yet, but the landowner is working to address concerns over the initial draft proposals . There is no indication of a timescale for the submission of a planning application. If/when there is a application we will let you know.

Do You Know Anyone who would like to make a difference at a local school ? Maple Cross school has parent governors, and is looking for 2 community governors to work with the school to raise standards, support the work to ensure pupils receive a good all round education, make sure public money is well spent and contribute to decisions about the future direction of the school. Hertfordshire Health and Wellbeing Board has produced some interesting, but depressing , local statistics for 2014/5.
* 19.4% of 4-5yr olds were classified as overweight or obese.
* 55.6% of 15yr olds said they had been bullied in the past couple of months.
* 60,769 adults were known to have depression.
* 8,069 people aged 65+ were known to have dementia.
* 4,493 emergency hospital admissions were for falls injuries to people aged 65+
